Event Description

Held since 2005 by Abraji, the Congress brings together journalists, journalism professors and students interested in the best journalistic practices and reporting techniques. The 7th Congress strengthens the partnership between Abraji and the University Anhembi Morumbi, which will host the event for the fourth consecutive time. Among the speakers this year are some of the most experienced Brazilian journalists and more than ten international guests. The seventh edition of the event will feature lectures and workshops simultaneously, concentrated in a few major themes: online journalism, sports mega-events and elections. In addition, the 2012 conference offers panels on politics, economy, environment, fundamentals of reporting, CAR techniques (Computer Assisted Reporting) and many other topics. Speaking at the 7th Congress of Investigative Journalism, Frank Smyth, founder of Global Journalist Security, will speak about his experience covering the areas of war and give advice and tips for the protection of journalists who embark on the most dangerous situations to get the best story. His lecture, “Measures of protection for journalists on coverage of armed conflict”, will be held on Thursday, July 12 at 9am. The event will also feature speakers Marcelo Moreira (TV Globo / Abraji), John Paul Charleaux (Conectas Human Rights) and Rodney Pinder (International News Safety Institute / England).
