SUMMARY:EcFin Briefing for Euro Area Journalists
DESCRIPTION:In the midst of ongoing turbulence in Greece and Ireland o
n one hand and the fresh adoption of the Euro by Estonia on the other,
the European Journalism Centre is organising in early February, in co
-operation with DG Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Comm
ission, an exclusive programme for journalists specialising in economi
c and financial issues from the Euro Zone-17 countries. The current con
vulsions in the Euro zone, coupled with fresh concerns for the stabili
ty of Portugal and Spain and China's bond market intervention in the l
atter, have once again cast a bright and harsh light on the European c
ommon currency and the huge continental economy it underpins. This thre
e-day seminar will feature panel discussions as well as on and off the
record talks with senior members of the EU (including the Commission
and Council) as well as experts from the NGO, think tank and academic
communities in Brussels. Economic governance will again be a key theme
as well as economic forecasts.Participating journalists will have the
opportunity to attend press conferences following the meetings of fin
ance ministers from the Euro Area (Eurogroup) and the EU-27 (ECFIN Cou
ncil)as well as the European Commission mid-day briefing on Interim Ec
onomic Forecasts. The discussions will be lively, informal and should s
ignificantly help those attending get the inside track on where the Eu
ro area economy and currency is and is forecast to go in the near futu
re.The EJC would be pleased to invite you to attend this unique, high-
calibre seminar. The organisers will cover the flights (home country -
Brussels, Brussels - home country), accommodation (including breakfas
 t) and some lunches and dinners.\n\nFor more information visit http://
