Event Description

The major economic and fiscal crisis continues to haunt us. The European sovereign debt crisis has prompted intense action by the EU's national governments, the European Central Bank and the European Commission in order to support growth and employment, ensure financial stability and put in place measures of a reinforced EU's economic governance.

Against this background, the European Journalism Centre and the European Commission’s DG Economic and Financial Affairs invite you to attend a three-day seminar, which will be held in Brussels exclusively for journalists from non-euro EU member states, covering economic issues.

This three-day seminar will feature panel discussions as well as on and off the record talks with senior members of the EU (including the EU Commission and the EU Parliament) as well as experts from the NGO, think tank and academic communities in Brussels. Economic governance will again be a key theme.

Participating journalists will have the opportunity to attend the press conference of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council, the European Commission’s midday briefing followed by the interim economic forecast press conference by EU Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs Olli Rehn.

The discussions will be lively, informal and should significantly help those attending to get the inside track on where the EU economy and currency is and what future predictions are being made about it.

A more detailed seminar programme will be available shortly. NB: Travel and accommodation will be covered by the European Commission.

If you are interested in the background briefing, please register online via the EJC seminar website by 3 February 2012.

For further programme information, please contact Biba Klomp.
