Hi there,

I hope you're well. I'm the CEO of a Belfast-based company called NewsRupt (www.newsrupt.com). NewsRupt builds web and mobile applications for newspapers and journalists with the goal of making life easier.

I was wondering if we could get some feedback from you all. We want to know what the biggest problems in your daily work are. For example, with freelance journalists, particularly those who work in investigative journalism, we saw that the biggest problem was getting the best price for their story and getting paid on time, so we built Qluso (www.qluso.com) which is launching next month in beta. But what other problems of yours could we solve with a handy web or mobile app? We'd love to know. Feel free to ping me on Lyra@newsrupt.com

Thanks for your time,

Lyra McKee,
CEO, NewsRupt Ltd.

Hi Lyra,

I noticed this discussion didn't get picked up by anyone at the time. But I'm interested to hear more about NewsRupt and the products you are developing for journalists.

Thanks,

Emma
Hello,
Unfortunately, in case of Armenia so many problems occur that telling about one or two would not give the whole situation. In any case, there is a problem of getting published investigative stories, but mostly it is the problem of skills to do investigations. There are few possibilities to get involved in some studies on the investigative journalism, but that is not enough to make a sense in the whole field. So that is why in Armenia we may publish a bit easier our investigations as that kind of work is not done as frequently as needed.
In any case, I would also like to get more info on the possibilities of products for journalists.
Best,
Aghavni
Hi Emma and Aghavni!

Thanks for your replies, and sorry I'm a bit late to reply-we've been moving offices!

Would love to discuss more with you Emma, I'll be in touch!

Totally agree Aghavni, I think there needs to be more widespread training to help train journalists in investigative skills. It's very difficult to start when you don't know where to begin, as I did. We're hoping tools like Qluso can change this though.
I was looking at Qluso the other day. Perhaps you could do a survey with our Community members?
Hi Emma, I will email you now :)

Sign Language in Media, Communication & Journalism

If in Journalism, Media and Communication in general, one deals with freedom of expression, one has to be accessible to all and able to understand and communicate in all languages. Sign language is one of them and it is not only the language of the hearing impaired, it is a minority language of many people in every society of the world. It is also an important way to communicate in some of our world's societies as part of their culture.Although it is very important and for many people the only…See More
