Hello all,
I am an editor for a newspaper in New York City and I am contemplating a job move that would take me to Brussels as the EU reporter for a financial news agency.
The agency is one of the smaller ones and does not have a permanent office in Brussels.
I wondered if some of you veteran Brussels reporters who are in a similar situation -- this is, not having a formal office to work from -- could give me some advice.
Are the facilities at the International Press Centre adequate for you to do your job. If the press centre closes at 6 pm, where to you work to report EU events that run late into the evening or take place on weekends? Do you find yourself working mostly from home, or from the press centre? And finally, if working from home is a necessity, what are the areas of Brussels that are nice to live in and that are convenient to EU institutions and to the press centre.
Thanks very much for the help.

Have a look at this link below. Tailored for journalists covering the EU, this pocket book produced by us includes a wealth of information and contacts of the main EU institutions.

As for the nicest areas to live in Brussels, close both to the centre and the EU, I would suggest that you have a look around the Etterbeck area, close to Merode metro. This area is full of expats because its very convenient for those working in the EU area. Its also very close to a nice park: Parc du Cinquantenaire, where a lot of people go jogging in the evening. Its around 10-15min walk to the EU hub.
There is another really nice area called Chatelain, full of bars and cafes. Its not so close to the EU area, meaning that you would need to take public transport or bike.
I would not advise you to live right in the centre of the city (near the Grand Place area) as its always full of tourists and its not very quiet.
