European Union - Unions, Laws, Media, and Journalism

The name of this supranational institution, says it all: European Union. However, how united are we?

Jean Monet, one of the founders of this wonderful political creation, repeatedly said: "...there is no future for the people of Europe other than in union". Yet, long before Monet another French man, Victor Hugo, longed for a United Europe: “A day will arrive, where all nations of this continent, without giving up their particularities...." will be united.

Nevertheless, we see in every country Politicians taking decisions which are contrary to the spirit of the Union. What about transparency? What about Internet freedom? What about us in Media and Journalism, are we united, do we share the same views on the Union or are we influenced by local Politicians and political facts? Are we sharp enough to see and report those issues in due time? Do we know enough about the EU? We can only comment on things that we know, words that we know...a history that we know...Can we be ahead of our time as Victor Hugo and Monet? Well, we can only report the facts, but we have to be aware that facts can cause a domino effect...far away in the future! This group, will provide the members with an insight in EU history, analyses of facts and how those facts relate to current EU law. Furthermore, we want to straighten our relationship as EU citizens with the rest of the world. We invite EU experts and Lecturers to join us, as we aim to educate the community on substantial issues of the Union that is not mentioned in our Newspapers and Media in general. Welcome to the EU.

Sign Language in Media, Communication & Journalism

If in Journalism, Media and Communication in general, one deals with freedom of expression, one has to be accessible to all and able to understand and communicate in all languages. Sign language is one of them and it is not only the language of the hearing impaired, it is a minority language of many people in every society of the world. It is also an important way to communicate in some of our world's societies as part of their culture.Although it is very important and for many people the only…See More
