Senior Copy Editor, Ralph Lauren Advertising - New York

Purpose and Scope: Responsible for reviewing all Advertising proofs—Art Director layouts, Studio mechanicals, Production color proofs and bluelines—for copy accuracy and style consistency.

Responsibilities:

  • Check all rounds of all vehicles as they route to make sure that proofs match approved manuscripts and that any corrections marked by Copy or the Client have been accurately made. 
  • Occasional copy-editing of manuscripts as requested by Director, including internal documents as well as Advertising projects. 
  • Communicate changes in a clear, concise way and query all unfamiliar terms. In some cases, the Proofreader will be responsible for inputting changes. 
  • Ensure that all print vehicles are routing in a timely manner and adopt our strategy for alerting Project Managers that jobs are ready to move to the next phase. 
  • Help manage and update a comprehensive set of resources that define usage specific to Ralph Lauren, including, among others, the Usage Guide, Word Lists, Legal Approval Lists and Store Lists.
  • Review projects for grammar, spelling, punctuation, sense and style. The Proofreader ensures that 100% of the language released by Ralph Lauren meets the highest standards of legibility and accuracy in regards to both industry standards and our house style.

Experience

Job Requirements: 

  • Minimum 3 years experience proofreading for advertising/marketing. 
  • Competency in Word and ability to learn Excel. 
  • Meticulous attention to detail; ability to multi-task and prioritize. 
  • Awareness of both the rigid rules and flexible parameters of language, and the desire to expand knowledge of grammar and usage. 
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort in a fast-paced creative environment. 
  • Sensitivity and respect for Ralph Lauren style and branding philosophies. 
  • Cursory knowledge of apparel and accessories or a desire to become acquainted with such terminology.
