Recycling the World - Journalism Fostering Sustainability

Dear EJC Members,

Not so long ago, I suffered two accidents and could not walk for a while. After physioterapy I had to try to walk again. I felt like a real baby, trying out my first steps into the world. Walking slowly, was a boring thing to do, so I decided to photograph every place in the city where I lived. Soon, I found out that we never see much of the world and we know very little about the place where we live. I never could photograph everything, because there were so many interesting things in one place...I started looking at the landscape as if I was looking at a puzzle, besides architecture, there was garbage and lots of them, despite the fact that the cities are very clean in Denmark. I was missing the part of the picture where individuals assume their own responsibility and I finally found the answer. There is a place called GENBRUG in every city in this country and that is a kind of paradise for recycling artists and citizens from every social class. I was happy to find out that the people have found a solution themselves, the church has used their own properties or from the government and created second-hand stores where people can bring used furniture, toys, clothes, decoration articles, magazines, books, and when these items are sold the church can give something back to the poorest people, not mentioning that they can also go to these shoppings to buy nice second-hand clothes, bad, etc.

I will be visiting these places in the next few days and will show you how it works.

I am creating this group not only to show the example of Denmark, but I want to invite other journalists to do the same. Take one day at a time and walk around the city, re-discover the place where you live, look at the landscape and the garbage, make a sustainability report, where you interview the people and ask them if they recycle. Do some research and come up with good ideas for your own community and share it here with the rest of the world!

It is up to you if you are going to make a living out of recycle or writing about it.

I'm working on a project to engage the community to keep on recycling and I would like to ask all of you to write at least once a month on these ideas. Keep an eye on your neighborhood, there are people out there doing amazing things. In the following days I will put all my focus on the issue and see if I come up with some amazing ideas to share with you.

Do not hesitate to send any pictures of videos on the theme "RECYCLE".

Whatever you do, join us, let yourself be inspired and help saving the planet by cleaning up your home, your neighborhood and why not, having a better future!

Cheers,

Eliana van de Craats Lima (Group Administrator)

Hi Baghistani, I'm glad you have joined this new group. I really hope we will exchange ideas and pictures. I love Belgium and I think you have a lot to offer from there.

Let's hope we can attract more attention and many other journalists will join us!

See you soon,

Eliana
