Journalism in Israel and the Palestinian Territories is not an easy profession. I have left day-to-day journalism and work for a think tank, but I follow the local media closely, and had taught a course on "International Reporting" at a US university.
Journalists on both sides of the "Green Line" often face political, governmental, non-governmental, ideological, and social pressures that limit their freedom of movement, freedom to write, and even, their personal physical safety.
They are under tremendous pressure to present a "positive" spin on the news from their home territory. They face censorship - both overt and covert.
Journalism here is ideological; "objective" journalism is not practiced. In fact it is usually sneered at as being impossible or unworthy of being sought as a goal.

Martine Johansen said… Hi Eliana. nice to meet you. I've been reading your blog posts. And I look forward to reading more. After a day of reporting court trials on a local scale, it is inspiring to read such insightful posts on a grand scale. Reiser du ofte til Norge fra Danmark? Jeg tenker å flytte til København neste år.
Marta Babio said… Hola Eliana! Cómo estás? Hablas español? Thank you for your message. Did you know that the town-village's - where my parents live - name is Eliana. Thats really funny. Have you been in Spain recently? Today, it isnt really good for young people to work there, especially for journalists..
