To know Europe better. To understand a continent and how it works, in a better way - I know Asia far more, having worked in China and India for years, but I am back in London now and I am seeking to understand my home continent better.
Tell us a little bit about yourself
I am a freelance financial/business reporter and journalist, and a language lover, speaking German, Chinese and Russian in addition to English. I have worked as a reporter in Duesseldorf, London, Almaty, Beijing, Hong Kong, Mumbai and Moscow, and spent nearly a decade working in Asia. I studied German, Russian and economics in Hull, Berlin and Budapest before graduating and going to work in London for an e-business publication in 1998. I then worked for Handelsblatt in Duesseldorf, Germany, before heading to Beijing to work, for the state radio service, CRI, then for the Chinese service of AFX-Asia. I have been a freelance writer for the past five and a half years, writing for the abovesaid publications, travelling widely across Asia, Central Asia and Europe, covering global events from the continent such as the IMF-World Bank Meetings and the annual EBRD meeting, the latter for Emerging Markets magazine.
