RAJSHAHI, June 10: Terming the Rights to Information (RTI) Act as epoch-making the speakers have stated the act will play pivotal role in establishing peoples rights as a whole.
The speakers also underscored the need for changing mindset for proper implementation of the RTI Act in the greater interest of ensuring transparency and accountability in the society.
They said that political commitment side by side with government goodwill is very vital to attain the cherished goal. They were addressing the inaugural session of a daylong training workshop titled "Application of RTI Act-2009" organized by Rajshahi district committee of Information Rights Movement here on Saturday.
In his address of welcome, Member Secretary of the committee Sarwar-E-Kamal narrated various aspects of full-length implementation of the RTI Act.
With Committee President Mozammel Haque in the chair,Bagmara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rejaur Rahman addressed the session as the chief guest while UP Chairman Abdul Gaffar, Retd Headmaster Mojibur Rahman, development activists Abdur Rakib, Taherul Haque, Mahbub Jaman Tapan and Saiful Islam and BLAST representative Adv Samina Begum spoke as special guests.
The speakers termed the RTI Act as the key to development of the mass people and said through its successful implementation the act will facilitate people to become empowered.
They also said the act will supplement the effort of establishing good governance coupled with removing corruption through ensuring transparency and accountability every spheres of life.
Above 100 persons comprising public representatives, development activists, local elites, professionals were present at the training workshop.
