The world knows, we have won our liberation war in 1971 but we became the slaves of the poverty and Unemployment. After 41 year almost 49 percent of the total population still lives under the poverty line. One of the major reasons behind this is unemployment problem. It is a matter of concern at present age because every year hundreds of thousands student are getting graduated from various university and 70 percent of them have to remain unemployed for 2-3 years. Even those who gets job, most of them are working in a different sector than his/her educational background.Though providing employment facility and creating job opportunity is one of the major responsibilities of the Government to those young graduates, the Government has failed to meet the job demand for such a large population. Only a tiny fraction of total unemployment is managed by different government offices and private organization but a majority remain unemployed.
In the year 2012 Bangladesh is facing political crisis badly. As a result government cannot take long term massive step to remove the unemployment problem. Within 41 years Bangladesh has experience about eight new governments and two assassination incident at the top level country leader. So it is true that political crisis is one of the major causes of unemployment problem in Bangladesh. On the other hand two major political parties of Bangladesh, BNP and Aowami league are busy to gain only political power but none of these parties are trying taking any solid and cooperative stapes anything to solve the country’s major problem “UNEMPLOYEMENT problem”
If we look in the world map, there were many non-develop countries in the world like Bangladesh back in 70’s. But now many of these Asian developing countries are the bright examples, who have successfully removed the unemployment problem. Korea, Malaysia, Singapore are the newest of them. They are growing rapidly because there is no Political crisis. Government assured the foreign investor about political calm environment. So many American, European and Japanese company are investing in those regions spontaneously. As a result they are developing very fast. In the case of Bangladesh it is totally backward. There are so many restrictions and corrupted sectors which is blocking the foreign investments companies.
Back in 2010 Bangladesh Bureau of Statistic had published their last report on the unemployment. In their last report it was published that the unemployment rate in Bangladesh was 4.5 percent in 2010. For the concern of others it is important to include, here the unemployment rate is defined as the level of unemployment divided by the labor force and the labor force is defined as the number of people employed plus the number unemployed but seeking for work. The non-labor force includes those who are not looking for work, those who are institutionalized and those serving in the military.
Recent attitude and activity of political parties are very hateful to the common people. Even though by election when a political party goes to power then another party cannot accept that, they do not go to parliament they do not express constructive opinion in the parliament which is helpful for common people. To think for the greater welfare of the country they should keep patient, they should support the Government they should assist the Government to take the long term strategy to remove the unemployment problem.
It is a high time for this issue to think about it. Government should be more concern about this major problem rather than making excuses. They should allow the foreign investment to come in Bangladesh by reducing corrupted interpreting sectors and strict law of foreign investment. Otherwise we will fall behind in the long race of globalization between the countries.
