IDHAKA, July 14: In next week, World Bank will reply the memorandum protesting cancellation Padma Bridge funding sent by expatriate Bangladeshis, reports agency.
Earlier on July 11, over 500 expatriate Bangladeshis led-by US Awami League staged the demonstration for two hours near main gate of WB headquarters demanding review the Bank’s decision on Padma Bridge funding.
A representative of new president of World Bank came to the protesters and listened to their demands over the Padma Bridge issue. He gave assurance to discuss with the authority of the bank over Padma Multi Purpose Bridge credit deal on behalf of the new President.
The demonstrators handed a memorandum to WB authorities for reviewing of Padma Bridge loan deal and protesting the deal cancellation.
In the latest development, World Bank’s South Asian Desk’s India-Bangladesh affairs in-charge Kamila Pariadi contacted with US Awami League president Dr. Siddiqur Rahman over the phone on July 13.
In response to query, Dr. Siddiqur informed Kamila that they handed a memorandum to WB authorities protesting the Padma Bridge loan deal cancellation. The authority received the memo and informed us that they would reply at any time of the next week.
When contacted, the US AL president told banglanews, “I hope that we will get the reply of memorandum by Monday.”
